الشاعر التونسي أنيس شوشان

سلام عليكم و علينا سلام

May peace be upon you and may peace be upon us.

سلام إليكم و إلينا سلام

May peace come to you and may peace come to us.

سلام على من رد السلام

May peace be upon those who respond to the greeting.

و سلام حتى على من لم يرد

And may peace also be upon those who do not respond.

سلام بإسم الرب السلام

Peace in the name of God, the one who is “Peace” Himself.

رب العباد الله الصمد

The God of all creation.  The One who is everlasting and ever so strong.

سلام ترعرعنا فيه

It is peace that we grew up in.

سلام معجون بأرض هذا البلد

It is peace that’s mixed with the dust of this land.

سلام ما عدنا نسكن فيه

It is peace that we no longer live within. 

سلام ما عاد يسكن فينا

It is peace that no longer lives within us.

سلام نراقبه و هو يحزم حقائبه

We watch this peace pack its bags,

ليهجر رويداً رويداً أراضينا

To gradually distance itself from our land.

و يحل مكانه تسليم و استسلام

And be replaced by surrender and submission,

لتأسلم لا إسلام فيه

To a form of Islam that doesn’t have any true Islam in it, 

كأن إسلام أجدادنا ما عاد يعنيه

As if the Islam of our ancestors is irrelevant.

أتدرون لم يهاجر منا السلام؟

Are you aware why peace is abandoning us?

أتدرون لم يعم فينا الظلام؟

Are you aware why darkness is dominating?

ببساطة لأننا مجتمعٌ يخاف

Simply because we are a fearful society.

نحن مجتمع يخاف الإختلاف

 We are afraid of disagreement.

كلماتي لن تعجب بعضكم أو جلكم أو كلكم.

My words will not appeal to some, most, or all of you.

أعرف

I know!

لكنني سأقولها لأني رافض أن اكون من الخراف.

But I will say them because I refuse to be among the sheep.

نحن مجتمع يرفض الإعتراف أنه مجتمع يعيش التخلف.

We are a society the refuses to admit that is it an underdeveloped society.

نحن مجتمع يصيح بكل صفاقة و يدعي أنه حامل لفكر مختلف.

We are a society that shouts arrogantly, claiming to carry different ideology.

نحن مجتمع يهوى التعالي من فراغ و يدعي أنه مجتمع مثقف

Our society clings to baseless arrogance and claims to be a cultured society.  

يا ويلي ما هذا القرف.

Goodness, this is sickening.

فقبول الإختلاف عندنا ليس إلا غلاف

Here, accepting difference is only a front.

إختلاف اللون يؤذينا

Difference of color troubles us.

إختلاف الشكل يؤذينا

Difference of appearance troubles us.

إختلاف الفكر يؤذينا

Difference of intellect troubles us.

إختلاف الدين يؤذينا

Difference of religion troubles us.

حتى إختلاف الجنس يؤذينا

Even difference of gender troubles us.

لذا نحاول إغتيال كل إختلاف فينا.

That’s why we try to eliminate all difference among us

تحولنا لبعضنا سماً زعاف.

We became venomous towards each other.

نحن مجتمع أحمق من الحمق

 Our society is more foolish than foolishness itself. 

نعم ، نحن مجتمع أحمق من الحمق

Yes, a society that is more foolish than foolishness itself.

نتنازع على التفاهات و الترّهات و الخرافات

We conflict over matters that are trivial, nonsensical, and even fabled

و نرفض دوماً أن نغوص إلى العمق ،

We always refuse to reach at depth.

و لا أبرئ أحداً ، لا مدنيين و لا ساسة

And I absolve no one of guilt, neither the lay people nor the politicians,  

لا من يستكين لبلادة الصمت

Neither he who submits to the indolence of silence,

و لا من يدعي فينا القداسة

Nor he who claims sainthood among us,

لا من يتبع الغرب كالأعمى

Neither he who blindly follows the West,

و لا من يريد إعادة أمجاد الخلافة و النخاسة و تقطيع الأرجل من خلاف

Nor he whose only focus is the glory of the Caliphate, a return of slavery, or harsh reprimand and severe punishment.

دعونا اليوم نجرب أن نغوص فينا في أعماقنا

 Today, let’s try reaching deep within ourselves.

دعونا نجرب أن نعانق أرواحنا

Let’s try to embrace our souls.

دعونا نجرب أن نعانق في الأرواح إختلافاتنا

 Let’s try to spiritually embrace our differences.

ها أنا امامكم بلوني بشَعري بشِعري بأطواري بأفكاري

Here I am, with my color, with my hair, my various phases, and my thoughts.

أنا لا أخافكم

I don’t fear you.

أنا لا أخاف إختلافكم عني لأنني منكم و لأنكم مني

 I am not afraid of how different you are from me.

دعونا نخلق فن

Let’s create art.

دعونا نغوص في الحلم

Let’s immerse ourselves into the dream.

لنرسي ثقافة بلا سخافة

 To establish a culture that is clear of nonsense,

ليكون الرقي فينا هو أسمى خلافة

So that a heightened spirit becomes the ultimate caliphate. 

دعونا نذوب الأعراف و الأجناس و الأطياف و الأفكار و الألوان و الأديان
 let’s dissolve barriers between ethnicities, races, and sects, ideologies, colors, and religions,

و لا نرى سوى الإنسان

And only see the human being!
